To combat the challenging employment outlook for UC Irvine's class of 2009, Chancellor Michael Drake has announced a new Hire UCI Anteaters initiative to provide resources for alumni looking to recruit UCI graduates.
More than 4,500 students will graduate from UCI by June 30. They face a 22 percent decline in college graduate hiring, as forecast by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
"Nothing is more vital to our mission than creating the next generation of leaders," Drake says. "As a member of the 112,000-strong UCI alumni family, you can make a significant difference by employing new graduates and referring your network to Hire UCI Anteaters."

Alumni are invited to apply for various positions on the UCI Alumni Association Board of Directors or one of the association's volunteer committees. Service will begin in the 2009-10 fiscal year, starting July 1.
Serving on the UCIAA board or one of its seven standing committees is a meaningful way to help the association and represent the alumni family. Board and committee members should be willing to help the association expand its programs, reach out to more alumni and promote its mission of enriching the lives of alumni and engaging them in lifelong advancement of UCI.
Time commitments vary, though each committee member is asked to attend a minimum of one meeting per quarter and select UCIAA events. Association membership is a prerequisite.
Meet new alumni, network and stay current on the latest UCI news, all while helping to guide UCIAA.

UCI Alumni Association will host its annual meeting at UCI's California Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technology 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, when the 2009-10 board of directors also will be conferred.
This interactive event will give attendees a behind-the-scenes look at Calit2, including a chance to learn about technology that allows people to visit their doctor without leaving the house, assists people with disabilities and even improves users' dance skills. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served. RSVP required. (Daily parking rates in effect.)

Care-A-Thon, the annual dance marathon at UCI that brings alumni, students, faculty, staff and community members together to benefit Children's Hospital of Orange County, will take place from 6 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, May 27, at the UCI Student Center, Doheny Beach Rooms.
The culmination of an event-filled week, Care-A-Thon features bands, dance-group performances and other live entertainment, food, games and fun. Guest speakers from UCI, celebrities and performers, as well as children and families from the hospital, will attend.

UCI Alumni Night at the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach will be Wednesday, July 29. Alumni will enjoy a wine-and-cheese reception at 7 p.m., followed by the show at 8:30 p.m.
The UCI Alumni Association has secured 80 loge-level seats at the performance. Tickets are $55 for UCIAA members ($65 general admission) and are limited to four per person. The event sells out each year, so reserve seats early.
