Homecoming Street Festival offers something for everyone

UCI's 2009 Homecoming Street Festival will take place 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Mesa Road in front of the Bren Events Center. Alumni and their families, students and the campus community are invited to attend the free festival, which includes:

  • Greek village
  • Beer garden
  • BBQ
  • Children's activities
  • School and department booths
  • Free prizes and giveaways
  • Live entertainment
  • Guest appearances by Peter the Anteater, UCI coaches, the 2009 Homecoming Court and more

Alumni can receive up to four tickets to the UCI vs. UC Riverside basketball game at 7:35 p.m. in the Bren Events Center. UCI Alumni Association members who show their membership cards can save $2 off UCI parking and pick up a free gift at the membership table.

Los Angeles foundation honors UCIAA president

UCI Alumni Association president Jenny Doh '91 was honored by the Life Through Art Foundation at its 5th Annual Red Party Jan. 31 in Los Angeles. Each year, the foundation recognizes individuals who "exemplify the accomplishment of living life through art." Doh, who received her bachelor's in political science, is editor-in-chief and director of publishing for Stampington & Company in Laguna Hills, which produces arts and crafts publications.

'Seven Pounds' screenplay penned by alumnus

UCI alumnus and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity member Grant Nieporte wrote the screenplay for his first feature film, "Seven Pounds." The drama stars Will Smith and Rosario Dawson and tells the story of seven strangers finding redemption amidst secrets and selflessness. Nieporte graduated from UCI with a degree in film studies in 1995.

Class of '09 can order cap and gown packages

Commencement 2006

While commencement ceremonies aren't scheduled until mid-June, graduating students can order their cap and gown packages now through 4 p.m. Friday, April 10. The UCI Alumni Association is the official campus provider of academic regalia, which is required for all ceremonies.

UCI schools seek alumni mentors

Alumni and friends working in biological sciences or social ecology fields (such as criminology, psychology, social work or community planning) are needed to mentor UCI students. Mentors are asked to share their knowledge and experiences with assigned students. Those interested in volunteering can contact the schools:
