Cross-Cultural Center open house, Sept. 22

UCI students, staff, faculty and alumni helped create the Cross-Cultural Center's new 18- by-12-foot mural.

In conjunction with UCI Welcome Week, the Cross-Cultural Center will host a barbecue and open house for all new and returning students. In addition, the center's newest mural will be unveiled. 4-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22. Free. Cross-Cultural Center. More: 949-824-7215.

"Interrogations, Confessions, Coping" will be the first topic of the Newkirk Center's "Post 9/11: Science, Policy & Law" seminar series. It features Elizabeth Loftus, UCI Distinguished Professor of social ecology; Christian Meissner, director of the National Science Foundation Law & Social Science Program; and Roxane Cohen Silver, UCI psychology & social behavior professor. 4-6 p.m. (reception to follow) Tuesday, Oct. 4. Series of eyes
"Eyecode" by Golan Levin is an interactive installation that records and replays brief video clips of viewers' eyes.

"Eyecode: Works by Golan Levin" will be the fall exhibit. Levin is an artist, engineer and educator interested in new modes of interactive expression and nonverbal communication.
