Gassmann Electronic Music Series, Feb. 16

Common instruments such as pianos, guitars and drums take on new character when computers mediate the relationship among player, instrument and sound.

The Gassmann Electronic Music Series will present "Computer-Mediated," new works for instruments and computers, featuring jazz great Kei Akagi, Christopher Dobrian and other Claire Trevor School of the Arts faculty and alumni. 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16. 'Dance Visions,' Feb. 22-26

"Dance Visions" showcases original choreography by Claire Trevor School of the Arts dance faculty accompanied by the UCI Symphony Orchestra. Featured choreographers include Donald McKayle, Jodie Gates, Sheron Wray and new faculty members Chad Hall and Tong Wang. 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 22-25; 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25 & 26. Claire Trevor School of the Arts alumni Hideki Yamaya and Peter Fisk join faculty member John Schneiderman in a program of 19th century guitar duos and trios performed on period instruments. The program will include string quartets by Joseph Haydn arranged for two guitars by Francois de Fossa, guitar duos by German guitarist and zitherist Adam Darr, and a rarely heard guitar trio by Filippo Gragnani. 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25. Winter bulb festival, March 3 & 4

The UCI Arboretum's upcoming sale will feature easy-to-grow succulents, perennials and bulbs, such as this Lapeirousia jacquinii.

The UCI Arboretum's winter bulb festival will showcase the venue's South African bulb garden and various wildflowers in peak bloom. The event includes a plant sale featuring unique and easy-to-grow perennials, succulents and blooming bulbs, with master gardeners on hand to answer visitors' questions. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 3, and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, March 4. Tribute to Donald McKayle, March 8

Donald McKayle has choreographed more than 90 works for dance companies worldwide.

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts will honor Donald McKayle, UCI dance professor emeritus and renowned choreographer and dancer. The event will establish the Donald McKayle Endowment Fund for Modern Dance, with Debbie Allen, actress, dancer, choreographer, television director and producer; Della Reese, actress and singer; and Chancellor and Mrs. Michael Drake. 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8.
